REMIX TIME, BBs!
If you're unfamiliar with the principle of the fanfic remix, think about music. Some of the most awesome songs ever are covers of other songs. Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nail's Hurt, for example. Or Bear McCreary's Battlestar Galactica version of All Along the Watchtower (original by Jimi Hendrix).
The original songs kicked ass, but the covers spun them around and made them into something different but still kick-ass! It's the same thing with fic. You are assigned someone in a fandom you request. You'll have at least 5 stories to choose from, but you have no idea whether they've written het, slash, gen, or fluffy crack non-con mirrorverse high school AUs. You pick a story of theirs that speaks to you, and you shake it up and write it your own way.

Like magic, eh? Now you try! You just have to have written 5 1000-word stories (or 7 drabbles of 500 words) to qualify in a fandom. You can offer to write in any fandom, though. Do it!
ETA: You do have to have an Archive Of Our Own account to play, but... You want one of those anyway. Seriously.
