REMIX TIME, BBs!

If you're unfamiliar with the principle of the fanfic remix, think about music. Some of the most awesome songs ever are covers of other songs. Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nail's Hurt, for example. Or Bear McCreary's Battlestar Galactica version of All Along the Watchtower (original by Jimi Hendrix).

The original songs kicked ass, but the covers spun them around and made them into something different but still kick-ass! It's the same thing with fic. You are assigned someone in a fandom you request. You'll have at least 5 stories to choose from, but you have no idea whether they've written het, slash, gen, or fluffy crack non-con mirrorverse high school AUs. You pick a story of theirs that speaks to you, and you shake it up and write it your own way.

In case you're not watching heroes_bigboom, you should know I just posted a poll about whether the event should take place this year. If you're not familiar with the Big Boom, that's okay! It's a challenge patterned after the spn_j2_bigbang. Basically, writers have several months to write a fic novella (20,000 words or more). Participating artists then choose fics for which they create art or videos, and all are posted over a few weeks leading up to the season premiere of Heroes in the fall.
