brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (Misc: bondage duck)
Hey friends. It's that time again. Yes, it's the week of Five Acts, a glorious fandom meme where you can post a list of your favorite kinks, and we all have a comment-fic orgy. Or gangbang. Or whatever floats your boat. Here's the deal. You:

1. Post on your journal a list of five favorite kinks to read about, and the fandoms and pairings you enjoy.
2. Drop you info at the sign up post
3. Check out the master list and write some comment fic for other folks and their kinks!

Click the image for rules and info, or see the master list to get comment-ficcin!

My Five Faves (of this week)
1. Begging or offering. Guys on their knees, begging for mercy, or to be taken, or for sexual release, or just get on with it already for the love of God! Or a character offering himself, maybe even emphatically...
2. Non-consensual or semi-consensual sex. Sexual extortion; bribery; reluctant or ambivalent partner; bondage and struggle; trading sexual favors to guards to procure food or medicine for partner; rape fantasies; other consent issues. The good old kidnapped-by-the-enemy or run-into-hostile aliens or even the horrible-alternative-is-worse-I'm-doing-this-for-your-own-good-even-if-you'll-hate-me-forever scenarios are also great.
3. Abuse. Sexual, emotional, and/or violent childhood abuse; past abusive relationships; character A's abuse drives character B into arms of character C; the wounded child as an adult archetype. An experience brings up bad memories, a character discovers something he didn't know about his partner, a friend is suspicious/protective of a love interest's current partner.
4. Power issues. Inequities in beauty, rank, or class; power games; BDSM; power reversals; teacher/student pairings; magical powers; abuse of power; blackmail; romantic slavery; issues of respect; sexual scenarios such as a dominant character giving his partner to others to use, or a character kneeling beneath a desk and blowing someone who's on the phone. I love negotiated power exchange (like healthy D/s relationships), but I'm also a fan of fucked-up power imbalance, too.
5. Animalistic behaviors and characteristics Feral characters or behavior; domesticated pet behavior such as sitting at owner's foot and cheeking their thigh; purring; licking; characters objectified as animals, e.g., puppy play. Collars are nice, too.

My Fandoms/Pairings:

Sherlock (Usually BBC, but I've been known to drift into the Richie or canon-verse): Sherlock/John, Mycroft/John, Mycroft/Sherlock, Lestrade/Sherlock, and basically any threesome-or-more combo of those pairings. Moriarty/whoever he's fucking with today.
Star Trek XI: Kirk/McCoy, Sulu/Chekov, McCoy/Chekov, Kirk/Sulu, Kirk/Chekov, Kirk/Spock, hell, pretty much any combo of the above. Mirror!verse welcome.
Heroes: Nathan/Peter, Sylar/Peter, Sylar/Luke, Adam/Peter. Judicious use of the magnificent bastards (Arthur or Linderman) is a-ok.
Supernatural: Sam/Dean or Dean/Cas
Inception: Arthur/Eames
Crossovers: Yes, please! Other fandoms I'm familiar with include BSG (through Season Three only), True Blood, Pretender, Buffy/Angel, and Firefly.

Things What I Done Wrote
Sherlock: Mycroft/John, writing on body, sleep themes for [livejournal.com profile] setos_puppy
Sherlock: John/Sherlock, fever, dance, touch for [livejournal.com profile] ariadnes_string
Star Trek Reboot: Kirk/McCoy, drowning, nightmare hurt/comfort for [livejournal.com profile] tresa_cho
Sherlock: John/Sherlock, anal play, performing for a partner, sensory deprivation for [livejournal.com profile] emerald_embers
Knowing Your Limits (Heroes: Sylar/Luke, Special powers, power issues, references to multiple orgasms) for [livejournal.com profile] jaune_chat

The Foxhunt Adventure (Sherlock: John/Sherlock, accidental stimulation, first time-ish) for [livejournal.com profile] slothfulzel

(Guys, I suck at titles. Halp!)

Remix time! Oh boy, kids! For those of you not familiar with the remix, you can read more at [livejournal.com profile] remixers_lounge, but I think it's a fairly prevalent fanfic activity nowadays.

I suppose the news most interesting to me this year, is that Heroes is no longer an eligible fandom. *sob!* Two of the three remixes I've written for Remix Redux were for Heroes, and I always had a grand time playing with the brilliant fic of Heroes authors:

Heroes remixes what I wrote:
Behind Clouds, Sun Shines (the Legends Remix) and
The Persistence of Memory (The Dragon-Slayer Remix)

Heroes stories of mine what have been remixed-
* Philosopher's Stone became Philosopher's Stone (Tabula Rasa Re-Remix) by [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster
* Preventative Maintenance transformed into Preventative Maintenance (Yet Another Bad Night) by [livejournal.com profile] aurilly

Plus, y'know, I've written a Harry Potter remix (the only Harry Potter fic I've ever written), had a Trek fic remixed, remixed a Trek mirror!verse fic for the [livejournal.com profile] issenterprise Remix challenge, and am now working on a Sooper-Sekrit Sherlock remix.

The point is. YOU should sign up to remix, if you've written five stories of 500 words or more (or 7 stories of 100 words or more) in one of the qualifying fandoms. Although Heroes is off the list, Star Trek and Sherlock are both eligible. They don't guarantee a match by pairing preference or type (you could end up with someone who writes only kid!fic gen), but you do get to specify up to seven fandoms in which you're willing to write.

I love remixes, and I love talking about remixes with fellow remixers. Let me know if you're signing up so we can cling to each other in breathless anticipation until we get our assignments.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] rubynye: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

Oh right! It's like I chopped up a bunch of veggies, put them in the fridge, and now I should really make dinner. )

A joyous new year to one and all!

[livejournal.com profile] jaune_chat and I are ringing in the new year with a porn-writing party, during which she just coined the phrase "in medias gluteus" to describe a [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking story I'm writing. I think this year will be better than the last.

How are all your writing commitments going?
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (ST: Spock - kickin it Brit style)
I wrote 30,000 words this weekend. I need no NaNoWriMo. I only need a crisis, a Big Bang deadline, and my Word processor.

And sometime in the future, I will actually start socializing again, I swear. In the meantime, look for my [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang on Tuesday. Er... late Tuesday.
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (Chris Pine: Smokin Aces)
A fic meme from [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl. Wow, the meme:fic ratio has really gone up recently, eh?

Post the first lines from your last 20 stories. Do you see a pattern?

Twenty first lines. )

Things I noticed... I am fond of short sentences, and one-word sentences in particular.

Also, dialogue. Lots of dialogue. Which makes sense. My fics almost always have a ton of dialogue in them, and it's almost always the first thing I write. I'm a little embarrassed that some of these are not so snappy, significant, or important. First lines and last lines are important, damnit, and they should be excellent little jewels on their own! Most of these, not so much. Though I gotta say, still fond of #4, which is the opening line of this fic. It was the first line I wrote, which is saying something; it's rare for me to start at the beginning.

So, do the meme! Show me your first lines!
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (Nathan: chains yes please)
One of these days I will actually post some fic. Ha.

Until then:

1. My mirror!verse Remix fic is at 10,000 words and no sex yet. Uh oh. No, I seriously don't have time to write an epic Remix. I have to write an epic slave!fic!

2. Here, have some hot guys, religious imagery, and kink: Lady Gaga - Alejandro No, I have no idea in the actual fuck what is going on.

3. Or, if you prefer, blow your mind by mixing Lady Gaga with Newsies:
Headlines don't sell papes. Newsies sell papes. )
My work here is done.
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (Bennet and Sylar: Drivers picks the musi)
Hey ya'll! Long time no see. I am still alive, and still writing. I took another writing class last week (no, not nearly as entertaining as the previous one). What's up with you?

In other news, the Remix Redux 2010 archive is now open! It includes more than 200 stories in a variety of fandoms, including kick-ass Heroes and Star Trek offerings. I can't tell you what story I remixed yet, but rest assured I'll post it here when it's time for the reveal!

And now for some music memery stolen from [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing. Skip the instrumental-only pieces (non-English too if you want).
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and title correctly. (If it's a cover, the original artist is okay, and vice-versa.)
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like this game, post your own!

1. "You can do this, Hunter. Stop forcing ideas. That shit is no fun."
2. "I was driving up from Tampa when the radiator burst. I was three sheets to the wind; a civilian saw me first."
3. "Have they all gone? Yes, it's [title of song]! No more writers to whine, now it's my turn to shine." [livejournal.com profile] jaune_chat got Neil's Turn from Commentary! The Musical.
4. "One evening for pleasure I ramble on the banks of some cold purling steam. Sit down on a bed of primroses and I gently fell into a dream." [livejournal.com profile] maireadinish got Ireland's Green Shore, Tim O'Brien.
5. "Once I had my heroes. Once I had my dream. But all of that is changed now."
6. "Let me run with you tonight. I'll take you on a moonlight ride."
7. "House up in Clear Lake where I used to live. Picked the lock on the front door and felt it give." [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl got Genesis 3:23, The Mountain Goats
8. "Hey little sister what have you done? Hey little sister who's the only one?" [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl got White Wedding by Billy Idol (actually I was listening to the cover by The Harvey Girls)
9. "When you walk through a storm keep your chin up high, and don't be afraid of the dark." [livejournal.com profile] takhallus guessed You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel.
10. "I never loved nobody fully; always one foot on the ground." [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl got Fidelity, Regina Spektor.
11. "Well, my friends do me so right. I'm lucky this far or maybe it's karma."
12. "Go away from my window. Leave at your own chosen speed." [livejournal.com profile] takhallus guessed It Ain't Me Babe. I was actually listening to the Joaquin Phoenix version where he's pretending to be Johnny Cash.
13. "Does green mean stop or go? Is plastic good to eat? Should I put a hat on my head or on my feet?"
14. "I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends." [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl got Lithium, Nirvana.
15. "Some said the local lake had been enchanted. Others said it must have been the weather." [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl got Genius Next Door, Regina Spektor
16. "I'm [song title]. God, how can this be, playing with my memory?" [livejournal.com profile] jaune_chat got Under Your Spell from Once More, With Feeling (the Buffy musical)
17. "Cuz he gets up in the morning, and he goes to work at night, and he comes back home at 5:30. Gets the same train every time."

20. "Alors tu vois, comme tout se mele. Et du coeur a tes levres, je deviens un casse

22. "I took the Polaroid down in my room. I'm pretty sure you have a new girlfriend."
23. "[song title], but I love him. Breaks a new heart every day." [livejournal.com profile] takhallus guessed He's a Tramp by Peggy Lee
24. "Color me your color, baby. Color me your car. Color me your color, darling." [livejournal.com profile] takhallus guessed Call Me, Blondie.

Ohaithar!

brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (ST: McCoy - where's the porn?)
Hey ya'll. I'm back from the great Over There, despite the best efforts of the Evil Ash Cloud to delay my return. I didn't write you any porn while I was on vacation, but... uh... I brought you back a well-rested me? Hope that counts for something.

Now, to a list:
1. Have you read/written anything awesome in the past two weeks? Links please!
2. I'm scribbling furiously, working on my Remix fic. I'm pretty excited about it, though, as it's the kind of thing I haven't written in a while. Is anyone else doing Remix this year? If so, how's it going for you?
3. I've also signed up for the Mirrorverse Remix Challenge and am considering signing up for [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang again. Am I crazy?
4. I think I'm not doing [livejournal.com profile] heroesbigboom this year, for the first time since the challenge's inception. ::sigh:: I just don't think I have a Heroes epic in me right now, but this makes me sad in a nostalgic kind of way.

So what's new with you?
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (Adrian and Milo: Slumber Party)
I have been sleepy all week, because of not-being-home-to-sleep type problems. Therefore, I must have a meme (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] perdiccas and [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl:

Post a picture or video in the comments you think describes me. Leave no explanation. Post this in your journal. Profit! :)

Whee!

In other news, I am striving to finish my last [livejournal.com profile] hope_in_sight fic before I leave for vacation next week. Also, I should probably start on my remix... Fic ahoy!
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (ST: Kirk - Maybe I love it)
You know what shouldn't be hot? Jim Kirk and tentacles in a dubious consent situation. But uh... I like what I like.

Also, spent today's lunch hour and commute writing again in the wake of another professional obligation completed. Yay! Writing again!

Also, if you're looking for stuff to nominate for the Heroes Slash Fic Awards, you can see my stuff that qualifies at my year round-up post. Everything after July 17th is eligible. So all the Heroes stuff I wrote in July on.
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (ST: Spock - choke a bitch)
So, despite concerns regarding potential drama, I was all set to sign up for Star Trek Ship Wars, because I thought it would be nice to have consistent motivation to churn out fic, like when I used to write for [livejournal.com profile] heroes_contest or the [livejournal.com profile] lukexsylar prompts. I was agonizing over which ship to pic (because, honestly, I like lots of 'em... should I go with K/S? Sulu/Chekov? McCoy/Chekov? Kirk/Chekov? Kirk/McCoy? Kirk/McCoy/Spock?), but then I read the rules again and... подождите! "submissions rated G-R (nothing terribly graphic, please)."

Am I so shallow that I'm way less interested to commit to something where porn is not an option? When ships are mentioned, my mind just automatically goes to teh sex. I can't help it!

But it's probably for the best. I have plenty of fic commitments on my plate already, and this might have been too much.

Still... No porn? At all? :( I would like my navy of ships to be a little more full of naked shenanigans, please!
brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (ST: Chekov - chill out)
Today's my [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang day! Go check out 57,000 words of angst.

I do most of my writing during my train commute or my lunch hour, which means no laptop. Normally I write in a little black notebook, but once a story of any magnitude gets going, I tend to write scenes out of order, and I need to refer to what I wrote before, or I write a skeleton version of a scene (usually just dialogue) and need to fill it in. So I print out a section and edit on the train, and when I get home for the evening I transcribe it all. So I end up with a lot of marked up paper.

This time I saved it all and threw it in a stack on my trusty drafting table. This is the result: all the marked-up drafts of various sections of We Have Loved the Stars are in this pile right here.

Rain forests are weeping. But fans of angsty slave fic are rejoicing. I hope.
