Burn the Forest, Leave the Trees
A Love’s the Burning Boy/In the Forests of the Night Heroes Fanmix Soundtrack
These are a few songs that motivated and inspired me over the past six months as I worked on this epic. Most of these songs served as the soundtrack for certain scenes in the story. I tend to think of my stories cinematically, hence why all the scenes have music under them in my head. I’ve listed the scene that each track goes with so you can listen as you read if you want! There are also two bonus tracks that are more traditionally fanmixy: they convey ideas and sentiments that meshed with a particular character’s state of mind.
WARNING: The descriptions for this fanmix contain spoilers for both stories. So read the stories first. Then go back and re-read with the soundtrack!
Read the individual descriptions below, or get the whole thing.

I Just Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over You by Colin Hay
Download
This sad little song captures Nathan’s state of mind during the years he spent searching for Peter pre-Burning Boy. Think of the scene with Nathan and Angela in Chapter Two of Forests.
Your face it dances and it haunts me.
Your laughter's still ringing in my ears.
I still find pieces of your presence here
Even after all these years.
If I lived till I was 102,
I just don't think I'll ever get over you.
Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell
Download
This nostalgic song echoes Peter’s feelings about how much his experiences have changed him, but the bottom line is that his love for Nathan has survived despite everything.
And now old friends are acting strange:
They shake their heads, and they tell me that I've changed.
Something's lost but something's gained in living every day.
I've looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know love at all.
I hope you enjoy the tunes. Drop me a comment if you're snagging songs, and let me know how you like them!
