Summary: Sam and Dean discover demons have been possessing people with special abilities that have nothing to do with magic. Peter draws a future that reunites him and Nathan with the Winchester brothers. Together they find out that specials--people whose powers come from an unusual inherited gene-- are being targeted for possession by a woman who is on the verge of breaking one of the sixty-six seals.

Sam kicked at the woodchips underneath the swing he was sitting on. They made a satisfying thunk as they sprayed across the ground.
"Don't kick a hole into the ground," Nathan warned as he came up behind Sam. "Most kids don't have legs quite as long as yours." He came and leaned against the poles of the swingset frame, sticking his hands in the pockets of his jacket.
It was getting colder out here as the sun started to set. Sam zipped up his hoodie. "Why aren't they here yet?" he asked.
Nathan shrugged. "Pete didn't give a specific time. They'll be here."
"Sure." Sam kicked at the woodchips again. He wanted to see Dean--was desperate to see him, in fact--but he was afraid, too. He wasn't sure if he was ready to face his brother yet, even after two days of brooding.
"He's fine, you know," Nathan said. "Peter said he'd used some new power, whatever it was. Dean's perfectly healthy."
"I know," Sam said. Having experienced Aaron's power firsthand, he'd had no doubt that Peter would have been able to use it on Dean once he'd had a little rest. "I trust Peter."
"Then what?" Nathan sat down in the next swing over. "We've been over this, Sam. What happened wasn't your fault."
"Then whose was it?" Sam asked. "I could have murdered Caroline. I would have."
"But you didn't. She's fine," Nathan pointed out. "Or at least as fine as anyone can be who's on her way to Level Five containment with Noah Bennet."
"I fucked up." Sam leaned back and stared up at the cloudy sky. "Everything Dean warned me about... All the times he told me this would happen...I should have listened."
"Hey," Nathan said softly. "I know a little something about rock bottom. Once you hit it, hard, you've got a really good reason to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Across the playground, movement caught Sam's eye. He and Nathan looked up at the same time to see Peter and Dean standing under the monkey bars, arms entwined. Just as Nathan had said, Dean looked fine: no gushing would, no too-pale skin, no pained look of betrayal on his face.
"Sam?" Nathan prompted.
Sam got up and went to meet his brother.
+++++
"Cool every time," Dean said, taking in the playground a thousand miles away from the hospital where they'd just been.
Peter gave him an affectionate kiss on the cheek before turning away and releasing Dean to look for their brothers. "Remember what we talked about," Peter said softly.
Dean rolled his eyes. "He's my brother, Peter."
Then, as Sam and Nathan walked up to them, I love you, man, but butt out.
"Hey," Dean said as soon as Sam was close enough.
"Hey," Sam said, eyes downcast.
Peter went right to Nathan and grabbed him in an enthusiastic hug which he punctuated with a quick kiss.
After a moment's hesitation, Dean stepped up to wrap his arms around Sam. Sam returned the gesture somewhat stiffly. "I was worried about you," Dean said gruffly.
"I'm sorry," Sam said. He made as if to pull away, but Dean didn't let him go.
"Tell me you get it," Dean said.
Sam tensed in his arms.
"Just say you understand what I'm been warning you about this whole damn time."
Sam nodded against his shoulder. "I'm sorry," he said again. His voice had a breathless edge to it that Dean knew meant he was close to tears. "I didn't--."
"Hey." Dean pulled away to hold Sam at arm's length. "We've both got darkness in us, okay? Just promise me no more lies. No more."
Sam shook his head, agreeing.
"I need your help, Sammy. I can't do this without you. So don't expect me to. If I have to come back down to hell and get your ass, I'm gonna be pissed."
Sam managed a weak smile at that. He reached out for Dean's belly, and Dean obligingly lifted up his shirt so Sam could run his fingers across the unbroken, scarless skin. "Abs of steel," Dean said.
Sam pulled him into one more hug. Dean let himself relax and be held, telling Sam all was forgiven, that there was nothing he couldn't do for him, for them, if Sam would only allow it.
+++++
How is he really?" Peter projected to Nathan.
How would you be if you'd stabbed me and tried to end the world two days ago? Nathan shot back.
Point taken. Peter went back to watching Dean and Sam embrace, and tried not to eavsdrop. He'd teleported down yesterday for a private reunion with Nathan, but he hadn't exactly advertised that to Dean while he'd been recovering. Peter supposed the Winchesters were entitled to a little privacy, too.
They both pretended not to watch until Dean and Sam turned around to face them.
"Thanks," Sam said to Peter.
"No problem."
"So." Dean cleared his throat. "You guys hitting the road? Back to the freelance special-hunting business?"
"Actually..." Peter shot a glance at Nathan, who nodded his permission. "We're going back to New York."
"New York?" Sam looked surprised. Apparently he and Nathan had had other things to talk about than the Petrellis' future plans.
"We can do some real good there," Nathan said.
"With your friends," Dean guessed.
"Well," Peter said demurely. "It's not exactly saving the world from being sucked into hell or anything, but..." He wrapped an around around Nathan's waist. "We can do more than we have been. Be more."
"What about you guys?" Nathan asked.
"There's more seals out there, so..." Dean shrugged. "No rest for the wicked."
"Yeah," Nathan said.
"So."
"So."
No one moved.
"Didn't I see a motel down the street?" Dean asked.
"Yeah," Peter said slowly.
"Well?" Dean looked to Sam, then Nathan. Sam shrugged, and Nathan nodded.
"Yeah." Peter didn't even need his telepathy for this one. "We're all on the same page."
"Good." Dean punched Sam on the shoulder, then grabbed his hand. "Let's go."
With that, the two sets of brothers headed off down the road.

Date: 2009-05-08 09:02 am (UTC)What an epic, hugely enjoyable fic! My head's still spinning from the fun of it: it was a detailed, heart stopping adventure from start to finish. The plot was a perfect vehicle for a blend between the two shows, and I loved the other little quirky crossover elements too (Dean asking for Molly to look for Bobby...squee!). And all of the flashbacks reveal some sweet insights into the different brotherly bonds - lovely work.
And how sizzling were the Sam/Peter and Nathan/Dean hookups? Lord. That whole Sam/Peter ritualistic binding was so vividly described...guh. Gorgeous. And Nathan/Dean's competition! Hilarious, sexy and very in-character for Dean (aw, don't feel bad that you lost, honey, who can blame you?). And that's not mentioning the Nathan/Peter, Sam/Nathan, Sam/Dean and Peter/Dean...wow. I have no words.
Peter, with all of his BDSM tendencies, fighting against an internal submissive demon was so very hot - I applaud that concept! And I really liked the way you explored Sam's struggle with his powers. I haven't seen much of S4, but this aspect of Sam is really intriguing. His horror at hurting Dean being the turning point for him was deftly handled, and I loved their little conversation at the end:
"I need your help, Sammy. I can't do this without you. So don't expect me to. If I have to come back down to hell and get your ass, I'm gonna be pissed."
Vintage Dean! Love it.
I'm sure I'll have more things to add when I read this again (and again and again). I'll have to check out the bonus bits and the art! And I will, when I have time later this weekend. But for now: congrats on a fantastic piece of work my dears. I really, really appreciate all the effort that must have gone into it. You rock!

Date: 2009-05-08 09:35 am (UTC)Dean and Molly was one of my favorite funny parts I wrote, and Jill did a fantabulous job with Demon King!Sam and all the associated evil hangers-on.
I hope you enjoy the special features! (There's an orgy there, and everyone loves an orgy...)

Date: 2009-05-10 02:49 pm (UTC)I had such fun writing the ritual scene. In fact, that scene was titled "All Blow the Demon King" for a long time in our notes. Heh heh. Obviously I sort of have a thing (okay, a BIG thing) for submissive!Peter, so I had to find some way to incorporate that into the plot of this fic. To make the demon possessing him be really obsequious seemed a good way, since I don't think Peter automatically thinks of Sam as someone to submit to. Cuz, y'know, he's already got Nathan and Dean for that :D
And Sam n' Dean angst... So much potential for causing each other pain. It had to be taken advantage of. Accidental stabbage oh noes! But of course, they had to reconcile in the end. So there could be more sex. Of course. Ehem.
Anyway, thanks as always for taking the time to leave comments. I <3 you!

Date: 2009-05-09 12:56 am (UTC)Seriously.I've been worried recently that with Heroes not being received all that well lately, and not a lot of fic on that front,well...it looked bleak. But THIS?You guys have given me hope again.
As long as there are fic writers, doing their own thing,y'know? When canon is sucking, hey, there's always AU!And what better AU could there POSSIBLY be,than the Winchesters and the Petrellis together?!
On a more personal note,I can't watch Supernatural these days,as it's on cable over here(only saw the first season)So for me,this was a welcome dose of those boys.I miss them so much!
You guys rock.This ROCKS!

Date: 2009-05-10 02:51 pm (UTC)Oh Supernatural! It's been fun to read the reactions of people who are more or less familiar with one or the other of these two fandoms, so I'm glad to hear it's a happy thing even if you haven't seen recent episodes.
Thank you for reading and commenting! Comments are <3!

What a fantastic ride. I'm in awe.
These pairings are addicting. I had never thought about Nathan and Dean, but they are slashtastic together. *beams*
This whole universe is awesome. I agree to the note that these two fandoms belong together.
Though I haven't seen more than two seasons of Supernatural I think, that I'm a real fan now. *gg*
Thank you so much. I adore your Nathan. He is all kinds of wonderful. ( Besides I can't stop thinking about Dean and Nathan now... Nathan would make such a nice sub... *blushes* )
Absolutely fantastic work! Thank you so much for the gift. You both rock! :)))

Date: 2009-05-15 09:05 pm (UTC)And as you know, I write Peter as just full of subbie tendencies, so it was inevitable that he and Sam would have that kind of a dynamic.
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!

Date: 2009-05-22 11:19 am (UTC)My two favorite fandoms and you both do an amazing job of writing them both accurately and entertainingly. The storyline fits well in the SPN universe and you brought the 2 sets of brothers together realistically (just as in the first story they shared).
And you switched the pairings - awesome! Although I can totally see why the original pairings went the way they did given the 'needs' of each of the characters, to me there is nothing hotter than Nathan/Dean and the flying bit you wrote? Gah! Hot and perfect and sexy!
I sincerely hope this universe is visited again at some point as I would love to read more of their adventures. Surely there must be something haunted in NY, right? : )

Date: 2009-06-01 02:01 am (UTC)As for the future... Who knows what will happen? There's always plenty of peril to go around in their world, that's for sure!
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. It makes us very happy :D

Date: 2009-07-21 07:37 pm (UTC)I have to confess that I've never watched an episode of Supernatural, but you wrote the characters with such detail and care that I feel like I 'got' the Winchester brothers anyway -- and it was interesting to get glimpses of that mythology through this epic (dramatic, funny, action-filled, sexy, tragic, sweet -- everything, basically) piece.
I really enjoyed the tension and banter between Nathan & Dean, as well as the appearances by Matt, Molly, HRG, Mohinder. Well done :D

Date: 2009-07-21 08:12 pm (UTC)Then the Big Bang came up and we decided to go for it. We were furiously writing back and forth for... four-plus months I think. From January of '09 until May. Like Jill said in the Master Post Author's Notes, we used a wiki, did a TON of g-chatting and e-mailing, as well as actually getting together face-to-face a couple of times to hammer out plotting and then do our final edits.
Long story short, it was a lot of work, but it was hecka fun.
Supernatural is an awesome show, so I'm glad we were able to introduce you to the Winchester brothers through this story. They make an awesome foil for the Petrellis. The banter was particularly fun to write.
I'm so glad you liked the fic, and thanks for commenting!

Ya. The two sets of brothers play so well off (and with, heh heh) each other.
I didn't realise before that this fic is a sequel! (I found this one through various heroes_slash nominations and decided to come read it - I can't resist long fics). *Puts prequel on my reading list*
