brighteyedjill: Bones is pensive (ST: Kirk isn't listening)
[personal profile] brighteyedjill
In honor of the (impending) anniversary of my country's independence, I have given myself a day off of my fandom hiatus. OHAI GAIZ!

I managed to write 5000 words of my [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09 fic this morning, thanks to Write or Die in 500 word/20 minute increments. Next up, some [livejournal.com profile] luxkexsylar exchange fic. I may extend my hiatus amnesty to tomorrow in order to do some work on my [livejournal.com profile] heroes_bigboom story. But now I don't feel quite so horrified at my overcommitment as I did yesterday.

Also, I know many people are posting their eligible fic for the [livejournal.com profile] heroes_slash Fanfiction Awards, but instead I just put arrows next to everything on my fic Master List that's been written since January 16th. Good enough?

And as long as I'm stopping by, can I rec some porn?

And Years Went By by [livejournal.com profile] keelywolfe is Kirk/McCoy, Kirk/Spock, Spock/McCoy, Kirk/McCoy/Spock. If the pairings alone don't intrigue you, you must be dead inside. Her miserable/grumpy Bones voices is pitch-perfect, and I love the way she captures how important Jim is to Bones, and how Jim's relationship with Spock has changed things between them.

A Friend in Need by Amanda Warrington. Kirk/Spock. A variation on the fuck-or-die trope (Kirk's been slipped an aphrodysiac, and he'll die if Spock doesn't help him, oh noes!) told in a spot-on logical Spock voice that still manages to be sexy. Plus, Kirk is actually sensitive, which I love.

Blue Eyes Shine by [livejournal.com profile] rubynye. Christopher Pike/George Kirk, Pike/Jim Kirk. Woah. The hotness that was this fic... I'm a sucker for anything that involves George. George Kirk is just like the small-town quarterback that everyone loves, who is likely to be a self-righteous douche but instead is a genuinely classy guy. I haven't read a lot of stuff with Pike, but Ruby captures him well here as a Starfleet cadet, with glimpses of the commanding, confident man he'll be when he meets Jim. Oh, and then Pike gets to compare the differences and similarities between the Kirk men, and that's just great.

Brightness Burns by [livejournal.com profile] graceandfire. Mirror!Bones/Kirk, Mirror!Bones/Mirror!Kirk. [livejournal.com profile] graceandfire has a great little series going that explores Mirror!Bones and his relationship with Mirror!Kirk, and its implication when he meets the regular Jim Kirk. There are elements of non-con, but what makes this particularly hurty is the complexity of the relationship between the two men. Even when he's evil, Kirk still has hints of caring and nobility inside him. Plus then Mirror!Bones gets to describe regular Kirk as "friendly as a God damn labrador" which is so spot-on I giggled.

Now Disappear by [livejournal.com profile] hollycomb. Sulu/Chekov. Chekov gets amnesia and can't remember the last five years, including what he shared with Sulu. Sulu is beautifully heartbroken here. Angsty Chekov fic!

Dress it Up by [livejournal.com profile] morphinelovexx. Bones/Chekov. A 50-sentences project that delivers everything from fluff to hotness to punch-in-the-gut angst. Worth a look, even if this isn't your usual format.

Black Holes and Revelations by [livejournal.com profile] rubynye. Chekov/tentacle alien! Chekov/math. Chekov/Sulu. This one is for my very special friends, you know who you are. Dub-con tentacle sex ftw! Also, Chekov is not a delicate wilting flower in this one, so bonus!

Write or Die has saved my ass so many times. It's amazing when I stop being a wuss and get around to using it.

Still, I've only written ahem...one thing since January. I've got so many little random ficlets that I never got around to posting, and then my big bom fic, which I started in December. Otherwise, I just really haven't been writing much =/

Oh Write or Die... So cruel, yet so useful...

Wow, you started your Big Boom fic in December? I'm jealous. Mine is going to need a lot more TLC before the end of the month, that's for sure... I find that writing begets more writing, for me. When I'm writing every day, I get in the habit of doing it, and the plot bunnies multiply. But if I stop writing consistently, the plot bunnies hop away... C'est la vie!

I didn't intend for it to be my bigboom fic, lol. i intended for it to be done in a month but it underwent so many outline changes (which it STILL seems to do) and scenes were cut and added and themes were rearranged...I couldn't decide on a title...it was a mess. I didn't really start getting on a roll with it until March or so. Now it's 15,000 words and needs another six pages or so.

Ugh, Peter and Sylar. They never know when to shut up.

That's the way to do long fic: over the course of many months! Because characters sometimes drag you in crazy directions, or demand that other or different stories be told, or what have you, as you describe. But 15,000 words of Peter and Sylar? Now that sounds like fun.

You know, I was all proud of myself for getting my Remix fic done but this I managed to write 5000 words of my remixredux09 fic this morning has just made me insecure again. Yours is bigger than mine! And I'm a total size queen!!! ;D

Sounds like you're more on top of it than anyone else, hiatus or no. :)

Well, it's 5000 jumbled, confused words. I imagine about 1000 will need to be cut, and probably 1000 or 2000 added before it's in decent shape. I find that terror is a great motivator. I had an OMG-I'm-seriously-going-to-end-up-letting-people-down-if-I-don't-get-my-shit-together-right-now moment this morning, and so wrote like the devil.

And it's not the size, baby, it's how you use it. *wink*

Look at you being all productive and so on! Woohoo!

I was all about the Kirk/Spock at first, but now Chekov/Bones is eating my brain. I've already plotted out an epic Bones/Chekov story line for [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang. Ahhhrgh!
