Yeah, that's Anton Chekov's play The Seagull. Closest one on the bookshelf. Probably doesn't hurt its odds that I have four copies of it... This is the Schmidt translation, which is really the only one.

Your shadow servant is your greatest weapon. You can direct it against foes without putting yourself in danger or have it flank an opponent. As you gain greater power, your servant increases in puissance. Your ability to use it to deliver touch mysteries or spells makes it even more potent at higher levels than it would otherwise be.

Specifically, the above passage is from the combat section of the Master of Shadow prestige class. A.k.a., I keep all my D&D books in the den where my computer lives. Nerd power represent!
